Personalized search is nothing new, really. As a matter of fact, Google's been at it for well more than half a decade already. In late March, 2004, Google released a beta service on Google Labs that allowed users to refine search results based on their interests.
At the time, users needed to set up a profile of their interests and use a "slider" bar that appeared above the web results to "reshape" the results towards what they may be interested in.
