Amid the negative reactions and after being stalled in an antitrust investigation for months, the much-anticipated online tie-up between Google and Yahoo (originally announced in June 2008 and initially panned for 10 years) fell through when Google declined to accept government's anti-trust restrictions.
On November 5, 2008, Google officially ended its agreement with Yahoo to save itself from the prospect of a legal tussle. The company also stated that pressing ahead would have been detrimental to Google's core mission.
